Vespa LX 150 custom. A three stage mod story - Part III - 2023-2024 - by VM Design and Tuning

( work in progress, pics to follow soon)

.. and it's winter again.  Time for part III. It was a hectic year and with a lot of other things to do, so not much time to look after my Vespa.

As such, much of the things that were supposed to happen this year did not happen (including the frame).

For those that did not read parts I and II, I will make a brief recap.

Frame:
Still an ongoing project. I managed to recover the inner frame from the 50cc and I'm in the process of stripping the outer panels, that I plan to weld in, from my own. Still waiting to get all the parts ready, to get them sandblasted (however, in the mean time, I had a surprise encounter, after more than 20 years, with an old friend, so we will probably work together on this one, here's a link to his work - "La Sablat" ) and then if all goes well, hopefully they will get welded back together, then, God willingly, we will get to the painting part. Amen to that.

Transmission:
I finally ordered the final transmission I was talking about. After a lot of reading I decided to go for the Polini 17/44. Everyone I asked said it will definitely help, combined with the larger cylinder. So this is already set.

Engine:
Here I am still trying to decide, as there are three options worth considering when going for a larger cylinder in an LX.
First off, there's the original Piaggio Liberty 200cc kit, as it was the same engine as the LX, only with 200cc. This was a no brainer a few years ago as it was around half price from the tuning cylinders from Malossi or Polini. Unfortunately, not anymore, as the price today is similar to the Malossi and Polini.
So, second and third, there's the Polini and Malossi kits, and I am truly undecided at the time being which is the best fit for my LX.
I will have to decide till next month as I really want to start putting together the final things on the engine/transmission side.

Brakes:
Ok. Here's the area where most changes have arrived since the end of the last post. A lot of indecision has settled in, as I am not sure if the Polini Evolution caliper is the best choice and I am investigating an even better option. Brembo is an alternative, both normal and oversize, but the main alternative is installing a completely new, radial brake system.

Dashboard:
One final mod I only hinted in the last post. After many emails with the manufacturers it appears to be possible, but final details will be given only after I see it installed and functioning.
