Vespa LX 150 custom. A three stage mod story - Part IV - The final (I hope) - 2024 - by VM Design and Tuning

( work in progress, more pics to follow soon)

... As i said before it was a hectic year, so things got dragged till spring. But there's a lot of progress made.

So let's recap, again.

Frame:
The frame has been sandblasted thanks to - "La Sablat" , and it turned out very, very nice. All the sandblasted parts were primed with weld-thru primer in order to get them protected until they will be welded again.
Sandblasted and waiting for priming

Primer, layer one, the weld-thru one

However we have a small setback here, the serial number on the frame is very, very shallow punched in and after the sandblasting it turned out almost unreadable, so it will take a trip to the local car regulatory authority to be reinscribed
.  Luckily, it's still (mostly) readable.

There's also some structural inner panel of the frame that will have to be replaced and welded as the one currently on it is badly rusted.
Anyway, when the whole assembly is welded back together, there will be a second layer of 2K epoxy primer to protect it from rusting again, before the final paint coat will be put on.

Transmission:
Final transmission, as I said before,  Polini 17/44. This is set. The kit has arrived and is currently waiting, with the rest of the parts that need to be installed. I will start soon the work on the engine/transmission, as it doesn't require the rest.

Engine:
Also set, I decided in the end for the 187cc cylinder kit from Malossi. The Polini kit is no longer in fabrication so I did not want to risk running out of spare parts in case something breaks down at some point.

Brakes:
As I said before here's the area where most changes have arrived since the last post.
After a lot of going back and forth I decided to go for a radical change, so I went for a completely new radial caliper, the Mk2 from Stage6 R/T, combined with syntered racing pads from Stage6 R/T and with the AF Parts Race V2 axle seating designed for a radial brake caliper. A big thanks here to Antoine Fleury from AF Parts for the help/advice.  In the end it will look something like this.

While at it, I decided to upgrade also the wheel hub, to the Ottopuntouno race wheel hub, to match the axle seating.
Finally, a new brake disk to match the caliper has arrived. A very nice, Polini "Road", floating disk. I wanted to go initially for the Stage6 R/T Mk 2 floating disk but I honestly couldn't make myself to pay double for it.

Dashboard:
So after a long wait I finally got it. It's the SIP dashboard/speedo/revmeter designed for the old GT carburetted models. In black, so it matches the rest of the colors of the project.
It has the same physical dimensions as the LX one, so it will fit the mask.

I also decided to drop the regular speedo cable, as the new axle seating doesn't have a slot for it and the worm was also a regular pain in the a..
I could have gone for the other axle seating from AF Parts, the "Tourer", which has a cable/worm socket, but the LX cable is not matching the dash socket of the GT speedometer, so, given the fact the Race V2 has a mount for the Koso speed sensor, I will go full electric on the speedo.
The nicest thing about the SIP GT speedometer is that I am getting also a lot of other readings from it, revs, oil temp (instead of the regular water temp of the GT), spark plug temp, and a voltmeter/battery monitor.
One minor thing here. Electrics will be a bitch, I have to take every single wire from the LX dashboard and match the connections of the GT one, but hopefully that will be relatively easy.
